Smoothies make for an amazing meal, anytime time of the day. With the right components, you can easily enjoy a complete and balanced meal right from your blender. Our app, Simply Smoothies, can help you make the perfect smoothie, and maximize all the right nutrients every time. Lately, I have switched my morning protein shake to a fruit/veggie smoothie fortified with protein powder or natural protein. Not only is it super refreshing (especially after a workout or run), but I’m able to sneak in a couple of servings of fruit and veggies before I even leave the house! Score! In the past, my biggest challenge has always been getting the right proportion of ingredients – how much fruit, veggie, liquid, etc – and get it tasting yummy. What is the best way to make the perfect smoothie?
Even though we thoroughly understand the value of the smoothies here at Focused on Fit, it wasn’t until our app, Simply Smoothies, that smoothies have been a regular part of my meal planning. The app makes it so easy to make the perfect smoothie with ingredients that are on hand in the kitchen, refrigerator or pantry. Since then, I have crafted a new smoothie almost every week, and highlighted many of the yummiest ones on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

This one is one of our recent creations, perfect for the summer months when strawberries are in season and you can’t eat them fast enough. I was in the kitchen this weekend staring down bags of frozen strawberries (we went picking a couple of weekends ago, and came home with almost 15lbs of strawberries), as well as a half a watermelon. With basil growing in our planters on the deck, I had our latest creation – the Strawberry-Lime Watermelon Smoothie. This yumminess is so refreshing and perfect as a base for a smoothie or to kick it up with vodka or tequila for a delicious drink.

The Peach Berry Smoothie was a true creation from what was on hand. We were visiting my mother-in-law for Easter and we forgot our Blendtec for our vacation (crisis!). Luckily, she had just purchased a NutriBullet and had some frozen berries and fruit in the freezer. I threw a banana, blueberries and peaches into the blender with almond milk and voila, we had breakfast for 3, including a very happy two-year old!

Last, but definitely not least, is the Apple a Day Smoothie. It honestly feels a little like cheating, with the addition of peanut butter, cinnamon and vanilla. You may think you are enjoying a slice of apple pie. But with the addition of unsweetened almond milk and fat free Greek yogurt, this smoothie packs a punch with all that flavor – 17g of natural protein and 10g of fiber. Quite possibly one of the healthiest smoothies in the app!
