Our top 5 kitchen essentials for healthy cooking!

Well, it seems as though we are through the fog of the first 2 weeks. Our newborn has been home with us for a little over 2 weeks, and we all seem to be adjusting…slowly. Needless to say, we took a little break on the blogging, but we are back! And given that we are at home all the time, I have really taken note of our favorite pieces in the kitchen – things we can’t live without. Here’s a look at our top 5 kitchen essentials for healthy cooking!

Expensive, but a kitchen essential worth every penny

Classic Plus Series 4.5 Qt. Tilt Head Stand Mixer by KitchenAid

If you don’t have a stand mixer in your kitchen, put it on your Christmas list now! My husband got me one a years ago, and initially, he used it more than I did. He prefers baking, so he tends to use it more often. But I have found that I can create some of our weekly favorites with this kitchen essential. The mixer is key for our Simply Perfect Spinach Pancakes, which are a great way to sneak the greens into our diet, and even better for our toddler!

The Pampered Chef Large Bar Pan

I was introduced to The Pampered Chef years ago, before I really enjoyed cooking, and appreciated the benefits of cooking. I was so glad that I purchased the Bar Pan years ago, as it continues to serve as as staple in our kitchen. At least once a week, we use this stoneware to bake salmon – and it comes out perfectly everytime. Whether you make our Thai Grilled Salmon or something even simpler like salmon rubbed with olive oil, salt and pepper, The Pampered Chef Bar Pan will make you look like a gourmet chef.

Kitchen essentials that have paid off everyday

Pampered Chef New Smooth Edge Can Opener

2759-lg

I can’t say enough about this simple kitchen tool. Yes, it’s just a can opener, but it’s money! It works differently than standard can openers, because it actually cuts the can along the side of the can, and doesn’t leave a sharp edge. Anyone can use it! And because we tend to eat a lot of beans, which are great plant-based proteins, we are always using our can opener. Black beans are a staple in our house, given the protein and fiber content. Try them out in our Sweet Potato & Black Bean Burgers with a Kick!

Town Food Service 16 Inch Steel Cantonese Style Wok

For only $17, this carbon steel wok is an inexpensive kitchen essential. We use it for everything from sautéing tofu to making stir fry and pad Thai. It heats up quick and cooks everything even quicker. Perfect for a family with a toddler and newborn, when food needs to hit the table quickly!

Blender Bottle with Shaker Ball 20 Oz, Pack of 3 (Blue, Red, Black)

Given our focus on fitness and healthy eating, we are usually sneaking in a workout. On a break now, post pregnancy, but I will be back in the gym shortly. And replenishing your muscles after a workout is critical to maximizing the benefits of that workout. Nate and I use our Blender Bottles all the time. They are perfect on the go, and can be used for protein shakes or even shaking up a drink with electrolytes or BCAAs. These small bottles are great to throw in your purse or suitcase when you are traveling – no excuses for not eating healthy on the road.

Many people think eating healthy is hard, cooking takes time, and it does. But more importantly is the planning, and having the right tools. Hope this review of our kitchen essentials helps all of you on your road to eating healthy!
